Favourites | June 2016

Can you believe it? We are officially half-way through the year! 2016 has definitely been throwing us curve-balls left, right, and center. However, I believe that we can all come out of any struggle stronger than ever!

June was a bit of a crazy month for me. I finished my penultimate semester of my undergrad, survived swotvac, making time to socialise with friends, was constantly studying for my exams for majority of the month, on top of  working as much as I can, volunteering, finalising everything for our trip to London, and, organising the last of mine and Claire's things at our parents' house because they are moving! Whew, is anyone else exhausted after reading all that?

1. Sunrise

Firstly, can we take a minute to appreciate the sunrise before my law exam last week? I am constantly up before dawn for work (we gotta do, what we gotta do, people!), but I haven't seen the sunrise in a long time because I am usually inside while the sun is rising. I finally had the chance to see the sun rise before my final exam for the semester, as it started at 8:15am, and the sun rises around 7:30 these days. What a beautiful way to start the day.

2. Grey's Anatomy

I started watching Grey's because it is my best friends' favourite show, and I have never watched successive episodes before. It has been just over a month, and I am up to season 7 and I am still not over it! 40 minute episode dramas can be a hit and miss for me, because eventually I get bored and moved on to something else. The funny thing is, with a 22 minute comedy I can smash out a whole series and then re-watch it straight afterwards.

3. Artemisia Gentileschi

Yep, that's right. I have an artist as a monthly fave. I'm an art history major, y'all. Are we really that surprised? I wrote my final exam for my Baroque Art essay on the Italian Baroque artist Artemisia Gentileschi, and it almost broke me. I have a feeling that I will have a connection with Gentileschi for my entire art career because of it. She is such a fascinating artist to look at, whether you consider her personal history or not. I suggest checking out the 1620 version of Judith Slaying Holofernes, and if you're still not convinced, compare it to Caravaggio's painting of the same subject. Man oh man, do I love art.

4. Baking

The Great British Bake-Off is one of my all-time favourite tv shows, and when I was growing up, I always loved to bake. During the semester, my endeavours in baking were limited to trying out different mug brownie recipes. During the exam period though, Claire and I decided to celebrate submitting the first half of our final assignments by trying out a new recipe. We made Chai Spiced Blondies, and they were not too bad for our first attempt! I even wrapped some up and hand delivered them to some friends.

5. Dinner parties

In June, I had the pleasure of having a casual dinner with some new friends I had made in class, and it was such a great night. I have always loved the idea of having friends over for dinner, but Claire and I never really felt that we had the space to execute quite what we imagine. However, this month we decided to just do it already, and we invited a couple of friends from Claire's work and pulled our desk chairs to the table. I am looking forward to inviting more friends over in the future.

6. Quilted Vest

Remember back in May when I blogged about my quilted vest that came with my rain jacket, and I said I probably wouldn't wear the vest any other way? Guess what? I found a new way to wear it! I am still trying to see how else I can wear it, finding myself grabbing for it as I try to decide what layers to wear for the day. I am all for a versatile layering piece, and I am glad that I have found another one in my wardrobe!

Bring on the second half of 2016!
