Navy on Navy

Y'all, I had such a great weekend. I almost forgot that I was going into Week 11 at Uni! How has this semester gone by so fast? I am getting closer and closer to Graduation, and I don't know whether to be scared or excited. I think we should settle with both for now...

If you saw my last post, you would know that my family decided to celebrate Mother's Day a weekend later, as it worked out the best for all of us to be together. That was the weekend just gone by, and it was so great to have a weekend off work and spend some time with my family. On the Saturday, my sisters, Mum and I saw a movie together at the cinemas at Crown, then treated ourselves to a cocktail afterwards at one of the bars in the Casino, while my brother and Dad went to the football. We all had dinner at Saturday night at one of my favourite places ever in Melbourne, Arbory, (Which now has Lobster Roll's on their menu -- I was in Preppy heaven)! Sunday we met up again for lunch at Fonda Mexican in Flinders Lane, before Mum, Dad and my brother, James, drove back to our hometown.

The outfit I have today is what I wore on Sunday. After a lovely sunny day on Saturday, it actually cooled down a little on Sunday, which made this outfit perfect.

This is by far my favourite outfit at the moment! You can never, ever go wrong with a shirt dress, tights and knee-high boots. While I feel like I am at my preppy peak in this outfit, this isn't even necessarily a preppy look. I see people wearing knee high boots, vests and scarves all over Melbourne, and I love it! This is autumn fashion at its best. I bought my boots from Novo last year, and while I love them, I wish that I had taken the time to find pair of wide-calf boots. These are my first pair of brown boots though, so at least I will know for next time when I need to buy a new pair.

Melbourne fashion generally tends to follow the mantra of "Most of my wardrobe is black", navy is definitely my neutral colour. I actually own surprisingly lack of black clothing, which is sometimes an issue considering I am a part of the art world! I just love the look of navy more than black. Which is one of the reasons why I love this outfit. I love how I have layered the navy plaid scarf with the navy quilted vest and navy shirt-dress. The shirt dress is from H&M, and while I always love to sing my praises to H&M, this dress is a little on the short side. I usually wear leggings or tights under this dress because of it. Although I have a feeling that is mostly due to my height. Being 5"11' does have it's downsides every once and a while. This dress is no longer on the website, but it might still be hanging around in store. Shirt dresses are a great addition to your wardrobe, not matter what your style.

My favourite part about this outfit, however, is the quilted vest I have layered over it. If you remember my navy rain jacket from Target, the vest actually came with it. It is detachable from the jacket, which means that you can wear the jacket or the vest on their own, or wear them together for extra insulation. While I was excited to have the quilted vest, I had never worn it by itself until recently when I decided to layer it over my dress. It always felt like it felt a bit large and just overall unflattering. Now I don't think I will wear the vest any other way, except for this outfit.

I hope that you have a great week! For my fellow students, I wish you the best of luck as we come towards the end of another semester. You can get through it, y'all! I believe in you!
